Adjudicators

Our adjudicators are selected from the most knowledgeable, experienced and educated in the World. They are amongst the elite in the World of Ballroom and Latin American dancing. Every adjudicator chosen has been an Open British, World, European, UK Open, International or National Champion. This ensures that you are being judged by the best of the best.

Ballroom Adjudicators;

Adele Preston-Tanaka

Adele has been a finalist of all the major Championships numerous times including, Worlds, Europeans, Internationals, UK and British Open (Blackpool). She has also been World Professional 10 Dance Champion and together with her husband Hide Tanaka they were Undefeated Japanese Champions numerous times.

Alessandra Bucciarelli

Born in Italy she has been an active competitor Dancer for more than 20 years , her career has been in both Amateur and Professional danced to the highest level .
Her Retirement from competitive dancing as been in  2006 with a Memorable demonstration at Royal Albert Hall .
Since than she has been involved in coaching  some of the best Dancers in the World .
These are some of her achievements :
World , European , Italian , British Open , Uk , German Open , London International , Amateur Standard Champion .
World , British Open , Uk , London International Professional Standard Finalist .
Italian , European , Professional Standard Champion .
World , European and Italian Show Dance Professional Champion. 

Robin Short

Robin Short together with Rita was placed second on several occasions in the Professional ballroom section of the Worlds, European, British, United Kingdom and International Championships plus winning several other championships. It later years Robin has been President of the World Dance Council, President of the British Association of Teachers of Dancing. Robin and Rita have been recipients of the Carl Alan Award. Robin has further received two Carl Alan Awards and received on two occasions the Sonny Binnick Award

Alan Shingler

Alan started dancing at the age of 8.
He has represented the United Kingdom as a Junior, Amateur and Professional in European and World Championships.
British Open and International Amateur Champion and multiple Professional Finalist in all of the Worlds major events.
Carl Alan Award Winner.
He says his greatest achievement however is being a Father to his two amazing children.

Hazel Newberry MBE

Hazel has had an amazing career as both and Amateur and a Professional. She has won the Worlds, Europeans, British Open (Blackpool), Internationals and UK Championships.

Alessia Betti

I start dancing when I have 8 years old. 1997-2001 Finalist in all Major Championships. 2002 & 2003 Amateur World European, Blackpool (Open British) and UK and International Champion 2004 she turned professional and made the final at the Worlds and UK Championships 4th Place at the British Open, Blackpool Blackpool 4th place 3rd Place International Championships 2005: World and European Champion Runner Up at UK Championship, Internationals and at the British Open, Blackpool winning Tango! 2006-2009 Winner at all Major Championships including, Worlds, Europeans, UK, Internationals and British Open, Blackpool

Michael Barr

Michael with his wife Vicky has had a very successful career winning all the major Ballroom Championships as Amateurs and as professionals they were five times World, British, United Kingdom and International Ballroom Champions and Six times European Ballroom Champions. They were twice recipients of the Carl-Alan Award, presented to them by Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Kent, and were also honoured by the BDF with The Sonny Binick Lifetime Achievement Award for Outstanding Services to Dancing. In 2012 they received the coveted Prince Mikasa Lifetime Achievement Award from Japan.

7-time British Open Professional Latin American Champion , 9-time World Professional Latin American Champion , World Professional Latin American Show Dance Champion 7-time European Professional Latin American Champion , 9-time German Professional Latin American Champion, 4-time International Open Champions , 3-time UK Open Champions Multiple German Open, Kremlin Cup Asian, Italian, and US Open Latin Champion

Sergey Surkov

Sergey has had an amazing career and is now a well respected ans much in demand adjudicator, lecturer and coach travelling all over the World. His achievements include the following; 2x Professional Latin European Champion 6x Professional Latin Russian Champion 3rd at the Worlds, International, UK and British Open, Blackpool Professional Latin Championships.

Sirpa Suutari

Former British Professional Latin Open to the World Champion, European, United Kingdom and International Champion. Together with Jukka, Sirpa is the Creator and performer of DOUBLE dance stage production and owner at HAAPALAINEN SUUTARIJAASKO DANCESTUDIOS.

Michael Stylianos

Michael with his wife Lorna Lee during the short span of eleven years, won and successfully defended all major professional Latin American Championships. 

Together they received many awards but 1982 Michael received a Carl Alan for the person to do the most for Ballroom Dancing. This was mainly due to his involvement and publicity with the British Ice-Skating Team. He contributed enormously towards the success of Jayne Torvill & Christopher Dean, introducing many of the Latin American movements onto the ice. He received another Carl Alan Award in 1993, for the best Latin American Teacher.

He holds triple Fellowship qualifications with the prestigious Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. 1998 Michael was invited to sit on the Grand Council of the ISTD.  He is Co Organiser of 5 Championship events each year including the Coveted “Carl Alan Awards” 

Carolyn Smith

Miss Carolyn Smith – Winner of the following Championships representing Scotland. Amateur Career: Scottish Amateur Latin, Finalist Scottish Junior Latin and Semi-finalist European Latin Championships at 16 years old. British National (Closed) Under 21 years Latin, British Under 21 years Latin, British National (Closed) Amateur Latin, Imperial Amateur Latin and All England Amateur Latin. Finalist British Amateur Latin, European Amateur Latin and World Amateur Latin Professional Career: Finalist British Professional Rising Stars Latin, Texas Challenge Professional Latin, Semi-finalist British Professional Latin, European Professional Latin and World Professional Latin

Johan Eftadel

Johan with his partner Nadia had a hugely successful career both as Amateurs and Professionals. Amongst their numerous successes they were; European, UK and Open British Champion. US Champion. German Open, French Open and Japan Open Champion Norwegian Champion.

Joanna Leunis

Multiple undefeated British, UK and International Professional Latin Champion

Lynn Harman

Lynn with her partner Peter Maxwell became Triple Open British Junior Ballroom and Latin American Champion winning her first title at the age of 13 (a record that has never been equalled). She become Youth Ballroom and Latin American Champion by the age of 16 and at 22 won both the British Amateur Ballroom/ Latin Championships and the World Latin American Championship.Having won all other major titles in both disciplines in 1974 Lynn turned Professional. Professional achievements included; World Cup 10 Dance Champion, British Open Pro Ballroom Finalist and World and British Open Latin American Champion. Following her very early retirement in 1979 Lynn has judged all major events including World and European Championships and now concentrates on teaching and adjudicating Worldwide.

Hazel Fletcher

Hazel together with her husband Alan have been extremely successful winning all major titles numerous times throughout their amazing career together, including being five times undefeated World and European Champions as well as Blackpool, UK and International Champions numerous times . In 1982, together with Espen & Kirsten Salberg they created a fabulous cabaret show called ‘Latin Fantasy' and that successful partnership lasted seven years. They retired from the cabaret scene in 1992. Now very successful coaches, lecturers and adjudicators in demand throughout the World. Hazel regularly reports for Dance News and her reports are held in very high esteem. They are also four times recipients of the Carl Alan Award.

Mr Bryan Allen

We are very proud that Mr Bryan Allen is once again our fabulous Chairman of Adjudicators. Bryan is president of the British Dance Council. He is also, although involved with training some of the world's leading competition dancers, very active in all levels of teaching. Bryan Allen has, amongst many, written reports, reviews and articles for Dance Today and Dance News for very many years and he has reported for twenty-seven years on the meetings of the British Dance Council.
